Remember when Vanic was all over the remix circuit and then just sort of receded into the background hum of the internet? “Miserable” is the sound of him remembering he’s good at this. The Duchess sings the title like a flex instead of a confession, and Vanic wraps her in that plush, faintly melancholy future-bass chord work he’s always had a knack for, the kind that feels like a sunset you’re a little sad to be watching alone. The drop swells rather than lunges, all supersaws and a vocal chop cut from her own line, gathering the melody up instead of blowing it apart. There’s a real songwriting instinct under the sound design here that a lot of his peers never bothered to develop. I’ve had the hook lodged in my skull since last night and I’m genuinely not mad about it. Polished to a high shine and still, somehow, obviously made by a person. Good to have him back on the board.

1-min read. About as long as a Coldplay key change takes to ruin a song.
