• This Week on coldplaysucks — July 22–29

Thirty-seven tracks landed across two drops this week, and house walked off with the belt: eleven of them, more than any other genre by a comfortable margin. Dubstep came in swinging right behind it, and drum and bass turned up smaller in number but bigger in impact — the two loudest records of the week both came out of that camp. If you skipped a day you missed a lot, so here’s the part worth catching up on.

    Track of the Week

    Camo & Krooked & Mefjus - Redemption

Three of the most technical people in drum and bass got in one room and, against every instinct, left air in the track. Camo & Krooked bring the widescreen melody and Joe Killington’s ache-y vocal; Mefjus brings the metallic, engineering-degree bass that shows up in the drop and rearranges the room. They take turns instead of fighting, and the restraint is the whole thing — twelve years into both acts and they still sound hungry. I’ve played it back to back trying to work out whose track it is and given up. It’s both. Listen →

    The New Drops

House (11 tracks) — House ate the week and didn’t apologize. Curbi brought the bass-house snap and Oden & Fatzo brought a peak-time weapon, and eleven deep, this was the sound doing most of the heavy lifting.

Dubstep (9 tracks) — Filthy in the good way. Modestep made it sound like sweat instead of software, and Feed Me leaned all the way into his deranged cartoon-bass voice. Buunshin went the other way and built something out of glass.

Drum & bass (6 tracks) — Fewer records, biggest swings. Redemption took the crown, but P Money & Whiney and a harder-edged Metrik remix were right on its heels.

Trance (4 tracks) — A quiet resurgence. Alex M.O.R.P.H got the Ben Nicky rework treatment, and Eelke Kleijn drifted toward melodic house.

Trap (3 tracks) — Low volume, high impact — NGHTMRE, IKU and a Knock2 flip held the corner down.

Dance & big room (4 tracks) — Galantis, Gryffin and Quintino & Deorro handled the festival-sized end of things.

    Also Banged This Week

    • P Money & Whiney - Photo Finish — grime energy over a rolling DnB engine, and you can hear both of them enjoying it. Listen →
    • Feed Me - Bad Taste — a lead synth that sounds like a dial-up modem being tortured, meant as the highest compliment. Listen →
    • Oden & Fatzo x Noa Milee - You Don’t Want To Think About It — peak-time house that wants one thing from you and just takes it. Listen →
    • Metrik - Dawnbreaker (Subsonic Remix) — drags a euphoric liquid roller somewhere harder without losing the light. Listen →
    • Habstrakt - Everyday (VIP) — a rework that earns its own slot instead of quietly replacing the original. Listen →

See you next week. Coldplay still sucks.

2-min read. Roughly the length of 'Fix You' minus the part where it falls apart.

Jul 2026 — Flipping “California Dreamin’” is a high-risk move — the Mamas & the Papas original is so lodged in the collective memory that most dance edits end...
