• P Money & Whiney - Photo Finish

Straight-up one of the most fun drum and bass tracks I’ve heard this month. P Money on the mic over Whiney’s production is a pairing that shouldn’t lock in as seamlessly as it does — grime energy riding a rolling DnB engine that never lets up for a second. The bassline has this rubbery snap to it, and every time P Money hits a rapid-fire run the drums seem to tighten up behind him in response. Around 1:50 the beat strips back to just the vocal and a skeletal kick pattern before slamming back in, and that half-bar of empty space is the best moment on the whole thing. Whiney’s always had a knack for making low end feel physical rather than merely loud. You can hear that both of them are actually enjoying this, which is more than you can say for a lot of very serious DnB right now. It’s built for a sweaty room at 1am, no pretension, no overthinking, just two guys who clearly get a kick out of what they do. I’d drop it in a set without a second thought.

1-min read. About as long as a Coldplay key change takes to ruin a song.
