• Habstrakt - Everyday (VIP)

A VIP is usually an admission that the original was already good enough, so the bar for doing one is high, and Habstrakt clears it easily. The Everyday VIP takes a track that was already a floor-filler and swaps the drop for something with more teeth, a bassline that’s been re-greased and now grinds where it used to bounce. Habstrakt has spent years in the pocket between house and dubstep, too groovy for the headbangers and too heavy for the house purists, and this sits right in that gap where he’s most comfortable. The new drop hits at 1:05 and it’s noticeably wider than the original, more low mid, more swagger. What I like is that he kept the vocal and the bounce intact instead of just turning everything up. A VIP that only adds volume is a remaster, not a revision. It’s a body-mover more than a brain-teaser and it knows it. Three minutes of pure Friday-night propulsion. It’s the rare rework that earns its own slot in the tracklist rather than quietly replacing the thing it came from.

1-minute read. Already more thought than the average 'Yellow' replay.
