• Habstrakt & Badjokes - Right Here (Silcrow Remix)

A remix earns its keep when it makes you forget there was an original, and Silcrow gets dangerously close here. The Habstrakt & Badjokes version of Right Here was already a clean, bouncy thing; Silcrow drags it somewhere darker and lower to the ground, trading the polish for grit. The vocal still anchors it, so it never tips into pure noise, but everything underneath has been roughed up in the best way. There’s a real craft to keeping a track this danceable while making it this rude, and the balance is what separates a good flip from a loud one. It’s the kind of edit that works equally well at 2am in a club and at 9am annoying your downstairs neighbour. Habstrakt’s name on the original was always going to draw the remixers worth hearing, and of the versions floating around, this is the one I keep reaching for. Slots straight into a set without a second thought, and survives a few plays in a row, which is the real test.

1-min. Faster than skipping past a Coldplay ad on Spotify.
