Emmit Fenn has a real gift for making electronic music that feels like weather, and Lungs is overcast in the best way. It moves slow and patient, built around a vocal that sits low and close like it’s being murmured rather than performed for anyone in particular. There’s almost no drop in the traditional sense — instead the track swells and recedes, which is a braver structural choice than people give this kind of music credit for. MrSuicideSheep uploads can blur together if you let them, but this one has a distinct emotional shape that stuck with me well after it ended. It’s headphones music, late-evening music, the kind of thing you put on when you want to feel something quietly and don’t want it announced. The restraint is the whole point; he trusts the empty space as much as the sound, and the space does a surprising amount of the work. A genuinely lovely four minutes that asks nothing of you except a little attention, and rewards it.

Emmit Fenn - Lungs
