Two names on a dubstep track usually means one of them wrote the bassline and the other wrote everything holding it up, and 2Mile has that split-brain feel in the best way. PARA and Kaya turned up on UKF Dubstep, still the first place a certain kind of low end goes to find a crowd, and the tune earns the slot. It sits in the modern deep-dubstep pocket, more interested in weight and negative space than in how many times it can scream at you. The drop opens like a trapdoor, the groove falling out from under your feet and leaving sub to fill the hole it leaves. There is a patience to the arrangement that a lot of newer producers sprint straight past on the way to the loud part. Whoever PARA and Kaya are, they clearly agreed on restraint before they agreed on anything else. It is a slow mean little tune that knows exactly how little it needs to do, and does precisely that.
