• 2ACES - For The Ones

Big, dumb, and completely irresistible, which is sometimes exactly the mood. 2ACES turn in “For The Ones,” a widescreen electro-house anthem of the arms-aloft, phone-lights-up variety, and it commits to that with zero shame. The build is a slow-motion elevator up to a drop that pays off with a snarling, distorted lead a lot meaner than the glossy intro suggests. It’s Revealed Recordings house style through and through, big-room fuel engineered for a main stage right as the sun drops. There’s a vocal-shaped synth stab running under the drop that gives it just enough hook to survive outside a festival field, which is more than most of these anthems manage once the lasers are off. I’d have zero interest in this at my desk on a Monday and total interest in it at 9pm on a Friday, which is a fair enough trade. Both times I played it my arms were in the air before my brain signed off on it. Sometimes that reflex is the only review a track like this needs.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
