Zero - SHOOTA

The best sound on “SHOOTA” is a bass note that arrives bent slightly out of tune, like the track is sneering at you. I’ve got no biography for Zero and the tune doesn’t ask for one — it’s riddim-adjacent dubstep, all triplet bass stabs and empty space, built for the exact moment a crowd wants to headbang in unison. It’s repetitive by design; one nasty three-note figure locks in early and then spends four minutes refusing to let go. I put it on expecting to bail after thirty seconds and sat through the whole thing nodding like an idiot instead. The drums are almost an afterthought, a skeleton kick-and-snare whose only purpose is to get out of the bassline’s way. There’s a scream sample buried in the second half that I could honestly live without, but the low end more than pays for it. On laptop speakers it’s a novelty. On anything with a real sub it rearranges your sternum.
