• SHOSH & BEANIE - Villain

This is the sound of a subwoofer being asked to do something it will regret. SHOSH and BEANIE built “Villain” to hurt, and the second drop is where it drops the last of its manners. The intro is almost a fakeout, a creeping little melody that draws you in close right before the floor gives out under you. What I like is how filthy the sound design gets without collapsing into pure noise; there’s a real groove holding the chaos together, a swing in the drums that keeps your head moving while your chest takes the hits. I made the mistake of previewing it on earbuds first, then corrected that on a proper system, and the gap between the two is basically the whole point of the track. The bass has a physical texture to it, grimy and half-broken, like the patch got left out in the rain overnight. Two producers egging each other toward something nastier than either would build alone, and you can hear the grin in it.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
