Route 94 - 4Get The Girl (Samm Remix)

The first thing Samm does to 4Get The Girl is strip Route 94’s original down to its skeleton and rebuild it as a bigger, punchier club record. If the name Route 94 rings a bell, it’s because he made My Love, the 2014 track that was inescapable for about eight months, and he’s spent the years since making sturdy, unflashy house. Samm’s remix takes the bones of this one and gives it a harder, more propulsive kick, the kind engineered to cut through a loud room at 1am. The vocal is looped into a hypnotic little phrase that stops meaning anything and just becomes rhythm, which is exactly what you want at that hour. It’s a functional remix in the best sense, made to move a crowd and made well. I don’t think it’ll lodge in my head the way My Love did. But at 1am in a loud room it’ll do real damage, and that’s a different kind of good. The breakdown is a touch generic, a stock riser doing stock riser things. Everything around it earns its place.
