Primate & Nersha - Gravity

Competent, and I’m not sure it’s more than that. Gravity is Monstercat drum and bass by the numbers: crisp production, a big melodic build, a drop that arrives exactly on schedule and does exactly what the last hundred of these did. Primate and Nersha clearly know their way around a session, and there’s nothing wrong here, which is sort of the problem. It’s frictionless in a way that slides right off me. The vocal is pretty and anonymous, the kind of topline that could be swapped into a dozen other tracks without anyone noticing. I kept waiting for the one weird choice, the moment that would make it theirs, and it never came. Even the drop, which should be the payoff, feels assembled from a parts bin every other Monstercat DnB track shops at. There’s craft here and zero personality, and at some point craft without a fingerprint is just wallpaper with good posture. Monstercat has a house style and this is deep inside it. If you love that lane, it’s a perfectly good entry into it. I just wanted it to take a single risk.
