How many ways can a producer wring a hook out of three words and a filtered synth stab? Raphi seems set on finding the ceiling. Head Spin is a lean, punchy dance track engineered for maximum immediate impact, the kind of thing Spinnin uploads by the dozen, and most of them blur into each other within a week. This one has a bit more going for it. There is a nasty bass-house edge sitting under the shiny top end, a growl that keeps the whole thing from turning into pure sugar, and the vocal chop, the title spun around until it genuinely sounds like a head spinning, sticks the way these are built to. It is engineered rather than felt, and I can hear every single decision aimed squarely at a playlist add. The engineering happens to be good, though, the drop does land, and I caught myself nodding along against my better judgement. Play it loud once and let it go.
