I keep coming back to how alive this one sounds. Take Our Time arrives as an Oden & Fatzo live take with Astels, and the room is the whole appeal, you can hear hands moving on hardware, the tiny timing drift a grid would iron flat, the low murmur of a space with actual people in it. The track itself is warm, loose tech house, a rubbery bassline and a vocal chopped into a single repeated plea that loops until it stops being words and turns into pure rhythm. Because it is played instead of programmed, the groove breathes, leaning into and pulling back off the tempo in a way studio tech house rarely allows itself. There is a long middle stretch where they strip it down to just the kick and the bass and let it ride, trusting the crowd to stay locked in, and that patience is the thing most producers are too nervous to attempt. Defected has been leaning hard into these live sessions lately, and this is the strongest case yet for why they bother. It sounds like a night rather than a file. I would have stuck around for the encore.
