Last Sun - Siren's Scene

The bass in this thing has a physical bend to it, like someone’s pitching a note down by hand in real time, and it’s the first detail that made me look up who Last Sun even is. “Siren’s Scene” turned up on MrSuicideSheep, which is still, after all these years, one of the few channels where getting posted means a human with taste chose you rather than an algorithm filling a slot. And this earns the spot. It’s melodic electronic with a genuinely strange streak, the kind of track that sounds like it was made by someone following their own ear instead of a reference playlist. The melody keeps resolving in places you don’t expect, sidestepping the obvious chord every time it could take the easy one. There’s a vocal chop that flutters through the back half like a bird trapped in the mix, and instead of cleaning it up they leaned into how uneasy it makes everything feel. This is what the smaller end of electronic music is for: someone with more ideas than budget making something that doesn’t quite fit anywhere, which is exactly why it sticks. I’ve listened four times trying to figure out what to even tag it and given up, happily. Whoever Last Sun is, I want to hear the next one.
