Somewhere right now a Minecraft speedrun is being soundtracked by this, and honestly, good for both of them. “Brighter Days” is a HESTER tune off NCS, which tells you the audience before you even press play: gamers, streamers, teenagers building whole aesthetics around music the majors ignore. That context matters, because NCS gets sneered at by people who’ve never actually listened to a note of it, and tracks like this are why the sneer is lazy. It opens on a fragile piano figure and a pitched vocal chop, the sort of intro that could tip into saccharine, and then the production shows real spine. The drop reaches for something springier and more melodic than the usual big-room synth, a lead that bounces and carries a tune you could hum back after a single listen. What lifts it is the emotional honesty; the title isn’t ironic, the track genuinely goes for uplift and mostly gets there without embarrassing itself. There’s a second breakdown where the drums fall away and the vocal hangs alone for a few bars, and that’s the moment the whole thing earns its name. A techno purist will hear it and roll their eyes, and that’s fine, they were never the point. For a fifteen-year-old finding out that electronic music can make them feel something, this is a perfect gateway drug, and I won’t be snobby about the on-ramp that got half of us here. NCS keeps running one of the most important pipelines in the genre and gets almost no credit for it.
