Got completely ambushed by how much I liked this, given the title reads like a 2009 trance throwback nobody asked for. I Need An Angel is HESTER landing somewhere between euphoric vocal house and festival melodic, and the hook is the type that embeds itself in your skull inside one listen and then refuses eviction for days. It is unashamedly big and emotional, built to be screamed back at a stage by forty thousand people with their hands in the air. Normally that is a red flag for me, the whole mainstage-euphoria formula having been strip-mined into dust years ago, but HESTER sells the sincerity hard enough that my cynicism never quite finds its footing. The drop trades the expected supersaw wall for something with a little more air in it, which keeps the track from feeling as generic as the title threatens to make it. NCS gave it a home and the comments are already full of people claiming it saved their week. I get it. Sometimes you need an angel and a very loud synth will absolutely do the job.
