• Arkins, HYPRS - Girls On The Floor

Had this going while hunting for the one clean shirt before a night out, and it did precisely what the title advertises: drag you toward a dancefloor whether or not you had planned on finding one. Girls On The Floor is Arkins and HYPRS making uncomplicated, high-gloss club house for Dim Mak, the kind of record that exists to do a job at midnight and does it with no fuss whatsoever. The vocal chop is the engine, a looped phrase that becomes more rhythm than lyric by the second pass, riding a bassline built for one purpose only. There is nothing here to overthink and the track would be mildly insulted if you tried. It is pure function, a tool for turning a lukewarm room into a sweaty one, and on that single count it is extremely effective. Not every track needs to move me personally. Some of them just need to move everyone else in the building, and this is firmly in that category. Pure getting-ready fuel, and it carries that job without breaking a sweat you have not even started yet.

1 minute. You read this in less time than Chris Martin says 'thank you, beautiful crowd'.
