Nomad is heavy in a way that never bothers to announce itself. It turned up on UKF Dubstep, still the most reliable place to find low end that actually means it, and Lokal uses the slot well. The track leans deep rather than screechy, the sort of dubstep made for a soundsystem and a dark room instead of a festival pyro cue. There is a real patience to how it moves, long stretches of space where the sub does the talking and everything else gets out of the way. That restraint is rare in a style that usually mistakes volume for weight. When the bass finally commits it sits low enough to rearrange your ribcage, which is the whole point of the genre when someone gets it right. I have no idea who Lokal is yet and the track did not need me to. It sounds like a producer who cares more about the room than the algorithm, and that comes through before you know a single thing about them. Deep, unhurried, genuinely menacing when it decides to be.
