excape. - it's gonna be okay

I found this at the tail end of a long day when I did not want to be sold hope by a dance track, and it got me anyway. it’s gonna be okay is exactly what MrSuicideSheep does best, that melodic, slightly weepy electronic music that would be unbearable if it weren’t put together so carefully. excape. builds the whole thing around a vocal that keeps repeating the title like a mantra, and instead of grating it becomes the kind of line you catch yourself mumbling on the walk home. The drop is more of a wash than a punch, big soft synths over a beat that carries you along. There’s a piano figure under the second half doing more emotional lifting than the entire vocal, and it took me a couple of listens to even register it. When the songwriting under this stuff is real, it stops feeling like emotional manipulation and starts feeling like plain kindness. I am not too proud to admit it worked on me completely. Sometimes you just need the track that tells you the obvious thing, gently, at the right moment.
