Heard this soundtracking somebody’s gym montage and had to pause the clip to hunt down what it was. Fight In Me is a big, earnest, melodic-dubstep anthem of exactly the sort built to score that kind of moment, three names stacked on the credit, a soaring Alaina Cross vocal about finding the fight inside yourself, and a drop designed to make you load another plate onto the bar. Cynically, I know precisely which buttons it is pressing. It does not matter. The chord progression is pure uplift, the kind of major-key climb that has reliably moved people for decades, and Alaina Cross has the lungs to sell the sentiment right past the point it should curdle into cheese. The drop is a widescreen half-time stomp, supersaws over a slow heavy kick, and I stopped minding that I had heard the shape a hundred times. It is motivational-poster music, and I am a little embarrassed by how squarely it landed on me mid-set. Some days you want something subtle. Some days you want a track yelling in your face that you can do the thing. Today was the second kind of day.
