Blackcode, Gaz Meeko & Paul Green - NRG

NRG is a stupid title for a track that delivers precisely what it promises. This is big-room energy in its least self-conscious form, engineered for the drop and nothing else. Blackcode and company build a tense, thumping intro that telegraphs the payoff from a mile off, and then the drop hits with a squelching electro lead somewhere between a chainsaw and a duck, and it absolutely rules. It’s the sound Revealed has been mass-producing for years, and most of it blurs into one long festival ID, so a hook this nasty stands out just by refusing to be forgettable. There’s a second drop that stacks a rave stab on top and briefly drags the whole thing back to 2011, and I grinned like an idiot both times it landed. Peak-hour main stage is the only correct setting for this, somewhere around midnight, ideally with pyro. The goal is to make ten thousand people jump at the exact same instant, and NRG hits it dead on. Loud, dumb, effective.
