This is the sound of a label running low on ideas. Gimme Love is future-rave by numbers from ZYNØX, the now-ubiquitous Hardwell and Maddix template: a dark driving groove, a pitched vocal barking the hook, a drop built on a distorted hoover-supersaw half of Revealed’s roster is leaning on right now. The craft is fine, the energy is high, the drop lands where a drop should land. The problem is I have heard this precise sound design a dozen times this year, down to the specific lead tone, and nothing on it pushes past the preset. It is functional peak-time fuel, the kind that fills a gap in a set and evaporates the instant the next track starts. ZYNØX clearly has the technical chops. I just wish he had spent them on something that did not sound assembled from the same three plugins as everyone else on the label. There is a good producer somewhere under this. The track is not it.
