• This Week on coldplaysucks — May 31 – June 7

Drum and bass didn’t just win this week, it showed up to everyone else’s set and unplugged the gear. The liquid pile alone could fill a digest, and we still found room for an EDC hangover, a Basement Jaxx remix nobody saw coming, and Sully dropping a whole EP like it’s still 2014. House and the heavy stuff filled in the rest. Annoyingly good week.

    Track of the Week

    Hybrid Minds - Avalanche

Liquid drum and bass gets written off as dinner-party background by people who have clearly never heard it loud. “Avalanche” is the rebuttal — the vocal sits in that bittersweet zone Hybrid Minds basically own, then the bassline rolls out smooth enough to ride for ten minutes and never get bored. Warm and heavy at the same time, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. Listen →

    The New Drops

Drum & bass — Ate. Completely ate. Liquid did most of the damage: Hybrid Minds, Sub Focus’s SOTA-remixed “Elevate,” Dawn Wall, and SOLAH & Break tearing up a rooftop. If you’re not on DnB right now I genuinely can’t help you.

Dubstep & bass — The heavy corner stayed loud. Eptic’s “OCTANE” is built to embarrass cheap earbuds, Zomboy declared “Bromance Is Dead,” and Sully ran a proper three-piece “Disconnect EP” rollout — the singles and then the whole thing. Respect anyone still releasing an actual EP.

House — Quieter but sharp. Tech house finally got some love when Gorgon City flipped Basement Jaxx’s “Jump N’ Shout,” and Adam Ten, Ammo Avenue, and Jude & Frank kept the grooves moving.

Trance — Two EDC Las Vegas live sets — Ship Wreck and SUPERSTRINGS — landed straight from the desert, plus a long Eelke Kleijn liveset for anyone with the patience.

    Also Banged This Week

    • DJ Marky & Makoto - It’s Alright, I Feel It — liquid royalty, no notes. Listen →
    • Basement Jaxx - Jump N’ Shout (Gorgon City Remix) — the crossover nobody asked for and everybody needed. Listen →
    • Eptic - OCTANE — use it to find out whether your subwoofer is actually bolted down. Listen →
    • THEMBA x DJ Kent x David Morales - Alegria — afro house with proper pedigree. Listen →
    • Sully - Disconnect EP — block out half an hour, kill the notifications, let it run. Listen →

That’s the week. Go outside, then come back in and turn it up. Coldplay still sucks.

2-minute read. Slightly less excruciating than 'A Sky Full of Stars'.
