• The hardstyle temple is where Tomorrowland stops being polite

Somewhere off the mainstage, past the flower crowns and the couples filming their engagement, there’s a stage kicking at 150 BPM with a bassline built to loosen fillings. That’s the hardstyle corner, and it’s the most honest room at the festival. Nobody’s there for the aesthetic. They’re there because the kick hits like a car door and the euphoric leads make grown men hug strangers. With weekend two three days out, here’s the stuff that runs that tent.

    1. D-Block & S-te-Fan & Headhunterz - Keepers Of Our Legacy

Three of the genre’s founding names on one track, which should be a bloated mess and instead is the closest hardstyle gets to a national anthem. The reverse bass in the second half is so precise it sounds mechanical, and the crowd screaming the melody back is the entire point of the exercise.

    2. Headhunterz & Wildstylez - Down With The Hardstyle

The one that got half these kids into the genre in the first place. It’s from 2010 and it sounds it, which is exactly why it still detonates. That squelchy lead is pure early-hardstyle DNA, zero polish, all attitude.

    3. D-Block & S-te-Fan - Fire

The build on this one holds back so long you start to think the file’s corrupted, and then the kick lands and takes the roof off. It’s a masterclass in making 60,000 people wait, which is a skill the mainstage forgot years ago.

    4. Sub Zero Project - Never Surrender

Sub Zero Project are actually on the weekend two bill, so this isn’t a maybe. Their sound is meaner and more modern than the old guard, and Never Surrender has that screwed, distorted kick that feels less like a beat and more like a threat. Perfect.

If your neck doesn’t hurt on Sunday you didn’t find the right tent.
