• The Black Virgin - Hold me

Slow-burning and a little melancholy. Kompakt has been the home of restrained, headsy minimal techno since the late 90s, and The Black Virgin slots right into that lineage without trying to reinvent anything. The track lets the kick breathe, lets the bassline do most of the talking, and pulls a synth pad over the top that hangs in the air just long enough to feel sad about. No drop, no big moment, just steady forward motion. Best at 1am with the lights low. Doesn’t overstay its welcome, which is the rarest quality in techno right now.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
