• ROY KNOX - Falling 4 U

Picture the exact melodic-bass track you’d want soundtracking the end credits of a game you just beat at 3am, and ROY KNOX have basically built it. “Falling 4 U” runs on a bright, wistful vocal and a drop that swells rather than slams, melodic dubstep with the aggression sanded right down to something closer to yearning. The duo have a real handle on emotional lift; the way the vocal cracks slightly right before the drop at 1:30 is a tiny detail doing an enormous amount of work. It’s NCS-catalogue stuff, made for streams and montages, and there’s zero cynicism in me saying that, because this kind of track quietly soundtracks a genuinely huge amount of people’s actual lives. The chord progression is textbook bittersweet and I mean that as full praise; it works precisely because it’s honest about what it’s chasing. Warm, clean, a little sad in the best possible way. It earns the feeling instead of faking it, and that’s harder than it looks.

1-minute read. Already more thought than the average 'Yellow' replay.
