• Ravekings & JSPH - Acid Fire

Acid Fire is a big-room festival weapon that does precisely what Revealed Recordings weapons do, no more and no less. The label Hardwell built runs on a formula now, a very effective and very predictable one, and Ravekings and JSPH colour inside those lines with a steady hand. There is an acid line in here, a classic 303 squelch wound up and filtered for the drop, which is the one element giving the track any real character. Everything else is the familiar big-room playbook: a tense build, a beat drop, a massive lead synth engineered to detonate a festival crowd at exactly the predicted moment. It will absolutely work in that setting. Fifty thousand people with their hands up do not care about originality, they care about the drop, and this delivers the drop. But on headphones it is a bit paint-by-numbers, the acid flourish aside. I keep wishing they had pushed the acid harder and trusted it to carry more of the track, because that is the genuinely interesting idea here and it is treated as a garnish. Built for the main stage, forgettable anywhere else. Save it for the festival.

1 minute on this. That's longer than the bridge of any Coldplay song deserves.
