This is stupid fun and I mean that as a genuine compliment. Pegboard Nerds have been quiet enough lately that I’d half forgotten how good they are at this exact thing, and roping in Teminite and VGR gives Disconnected Again a chaotic, three-cooks energy that somehow doesn’t spoil the broth. It sits in that bass-house-adjacent zone where the drop could go melodic or could go feral, and at 1:12 it very much chooses feral. The lead sound is a detuned, rubbery growl that I can only describe as a synth having a tantrum, and it is the best thing here. I’ve heard a hundred tracks try this and turn to noise; this one keeps enough groove under the aggression that your body still knows what to do with it. Three producers usually means three ideas fighting for the same four bars. Here it sounds like they actually agreed on the assignment for once. Obnoxious, bright, and completely aware of how ridiculous it is.
