• Etherwood - Roam (ft. Lottie Jones)

    Etherwood makes the kind of drum and bass that soundtracks the montage where the character finally gets their life together. Roam is a peak version of that — Lottie Jones’s vocal floating clean over a break that rolls like it has somewhere lovely to be, all warmth and forward motion and zero cynicism. He’s been doing this since the early Med School days and he’s never really chased the trends, which is why his stuff ages better than most of the liquid that came out around it. The production is glassy and precise, every hi-hat sitting exactly where it should, and when the full break kicks in around 1:30 it feels less like a drop and more like the sky clearing. Lottie’s topline is the anchor, unhurried and slightly wistful, the sort of vocal you find yourself humming later without noticing. It’s earnest to the bone, and instead of grating it just works — there’s a sincerity here that most producers would be too cool to attempt. It sounds like being genuinely, uncomplicatedly happy, which is a harder thing to make than misery. Some Sunday-morning music for a Saturday-night genre.
