• No Signal, FrostTop, RemK - powerANTHEM

Threw this on to wake myself up on a dead afternoon and it worked, with menace to spare. “powerANTHEM” links No Signal, FrostTop, and RemK for exactly the hybrid-trap chaos Trap Nation lives for, massive 808s, a beat that switches up halfway, and enough low-end pressure to rattle a car door on the highway. The first half is straight-ahead trap swagger, all triplet hats and a mean bounce, and then it flips into something closer to riddim, the bass suddenly talking instead of just hitting. That switch is the whole reason to stay. There’s a moment where everything cuts to a single distorted vocal shout before the back half detonates, and the tension-and-release on it is genuinely great. It’s maximalist and loud and has zero interest in your idea of restraint, and on a flat afternoon that was the exact medicine. I played it three times in a row and the beat-switch got me every single pass. Turn it up until something in the room starts to buzz.

1-min read. About as long as a Coldplay key change takes to ruin a song.
