Galantis - Do You Mind

I have complicated feelings about Galantis and this track did nothing to simplify them. “Do You Mind” is exactly the sort of gleaming, hyper-produced pop-EDM they’ve built an entire career on, and I keep bouncing between thinking it’s a bit much and then catching myself humming the hook three hours later. The chopped vocal in the drop is pure Galantis, pitched up into that chipmunk-euphoric register that either delights you or makes you want to launch your phone across the room. Today it delighted me. There’s genuine craft in how the whole thing is stacked; the pre-drop around 1:05 builds on a rising vocal stutter that’s engineered within an inch of its life and still somehow lands clean. It’s shameless, radio-facing, festival-ready music with zero interest in being cool, and there are nights when that kind of honesty is a relief. I won’t pretend it’s deep. But it’s a lot better at doing its specific job than most of the acts trying to copy it. Turn your brain off and let it work.
