• Desh - Wherever You Are (Telomic Remix)

Liquicity remains undefeated at making me emotional over a breakbeat. Telomic’s remix of Wherever You Are is liquid drum and bass doing the thing only liquid can really do, pairing a heart-on-sleeve vocal with rolling, glassy production until the sadness and the momentum become the same feeling. Telomic has one of the warmest low ends in the scene, a bass that hugs instead of hits, and the remix leans entirely on that warmth. The original was already a gorgeous bit of songwriting; what Telomic adds is motion, a rhythm section that keeps the whole thing gliding at that specific liquid tempo where it feels fast and weightless at the same time. The vocal gets chopped in the back half into something halfway between a lyric and a loop, and the moment it comes back whole is a genuine lump-in-throat payoff. This is music for a long night drive, the city lights smearing past, that mood where you are a little sad but weirdly grateful to be feeling anything. Liquid DnB gets written off by heads who want everything dark and rinsed, and they are missing the whole point, which is that this stuff can go just as hard while making you feel ten times as much. Telomic has been one of the steadiest hands in this sound for a while now, and this remix is the reminder.

1 min. About as long as it takes Chris Martin to find a falsetto.
