The tension riser that hauls you into the drop of Cut Me Open is the kind you could set a stopwatch to, a long white-noise swell that announces exactly what is coming with zero surprises. That is more or less the whole experience here. Cut Me Open is festival electro-house in the style that felt inescapable around 2014 and has been largely out of fashion since, a huge vocal build and a drop of enormous sawtooth stabs aimed at a crowd of fifty thousand. Borgeous has made this precise track before, more than once, and a decade on it lands like a rerun of a show you already watched. The hook is strong and the mix is clean and loud in the way these things need to be, I will give it that much. But there is something a little sad about hearing a producer run the exact same play this many years later, a band out touring the one album forever. It goes hard and it will absolutely work on a main stage, and I doubt I will think about it once by tomorrow morning. A track that remembers a party I am not sure I actually miss.
