Two producers with lowercase names and a track called Costa Brava was always going to be more interesting than the NCS average, and it delivers on the hunch. angelrot and s33ya trade in the moodier, more online end of electronic, the stuff that sounds like it was made at 3am by people who grew up on the internet rather than in clubs. There is a hazy, slightly melancholy wash over the whole track that the sunny title sets you up to not expect, and that misdirection is the best thing about it. It moves at a lower tempo than you brace for, closer to a late-night drive than a dancefloor, with vocals pitched and processed until they read as texture as much as melody. NCS putting this out says the channel’s taste has drifted somewhere stranger and better than its reputation. It is pretty and a little sad and it does not overstay, which is the right instinct for a mood this specific.
