This is Amelie Lens doing exactly what turned her into one of the biggest techno acts on the planet, and it still works on me every time. come closer is hypnotic, driving techno built for a dark room at an hour that doesn’t officially exist, all relentless kick and an acid line that coils tighter the longer it runs. There’s a whispered vocal, the title repeated like a summons, sitting low in the mix and doing more to raise the hair on your arms than any huge drop ever could. Lens understands that techno lives on tension you never fully release, and she holds this one at the edge of payoff for minutes at a stretch. The 303-style squelch in the back half is the real good stuff, acid used with restraint rather than gimmickry. She spent years being written off as too commercial for serious techno, and tracks like this keep proving otherwise. It builds and builds and then just stops, no resolution at all, like she flipped the lights on mid-thought. Put it on loud in the dark and let it do its work.
