• A Viewing Party and a Line

Trump is spending Election Day behind closed doors. Policy meetings, no press. An ambassador lunch. Then a viewing party at the White House tonight where he’ll watch returns with the same people who told him Kansas was safe.

Lines are forming in Michigan, in Pennsylvania, in every state where factory payrolls are thinner than they were two years ago and groceries cost more than they did four. These are not people who got invited to the viewing party. They are the reason it exists. Thirty-one percent approval means seven out of ten Americans think this presidency is failing, and today is the first time that number gets to do something other than sit in a poll.

The midterms are not a referendum on vibes. They are a headcount. After 98,000 lost manufacturing jobs, cancelled rallies, and $650 million in corporate money trying to drown out the line at your polling place, the headcount is all that’s left. Go stand in it.

1 minute. Used wisely. Unlike most Coldplay run-times.
