A Little Sound is on half the drum and bass that mattered these last two years, whether you clocked her name or not. Here she’s paired with Kelvin 373 for a rolling, liquid-leaning tune that lets her actually sing instead of just topping a drop. “Same Thing” rides a warm sub and a breakbeat that stays busy without cluttering, and her vocal does that thing where it sounds effortless and absolutely is not. The drop keeps the melody going rather than dumping it for pure bass weight, which is the liquid move and the reason this works on a Sunday as easily as at a rave. There’s a little pitch-bend on the second chorus that gets me every time. The production is warm and roomy, with big reverb sitting on everything, the kind of mix that sounds expensive on a proper system. Kelvin 373 keeps the drums rolling underneath without ever crowding her, which is the whole art of producing for a vocalist this good. My one gripe: it ends a touch early, right as it’s found its pocket, and I’ve hit replay more than once to stay in it. Dependable, gorgeous, slightly too short.
