This is the sound of a subwoofer being asked, very politely, to commit a felony. Truth have been making deep, rolling, sound-system dubstep for years, and “Fight Game” is them planted firmly in their comfort zone, which for this duo means bass pressure most producers can only fantasise about. This is not the screechy, mid-heavy dubstep that colonised America a decade ago. It is the UK and NZ deep strain, where the low end is a physical event and the mids stay dark and sparse and patient. The whole track is built around weight and empty space, a skanking half-step rhythm, a vocal snippet looped purely for menace, and a sub bassline you feel in your chest cavity a full second before your ears clock it. Barely anything is happening on the surface, and that restraint is the entire craft, every element load-bearing, nothing there for decoration. On laptop speakers it might read as not much at all. On a proper rig it will rearrange your internal organs. Truth understand that in this style the restraint is the flex, and “Fight Game” is them flexing hard by moving as little as they possibly can.
