Trump signed an executive order yesterday creating a “Presidential Military Spouse Commission” to improve the lives of military families. He put Jennifer Rauchet in charge. Her qualifications: she’s Pete Hegseth’s third wife. That’s it. Former Fox News producer, no government title, no confirmed security clearance, no accountability to Congress. She does sit in on Pentagon meetings though, so at least she knows where the bathrooms are.
This is the same Hegseth who leaked airstrike schedules to a Signal group chat she was in. The same Hegseth who purged so many Pentagon staff he had to start bringing her to work because nobody else was left. He cheated on his second wife with her, married her, and now she’s advising the president on how to take care of military families. If you put this in a screenplay, the studio would send it back for being too on-the-nose.
Actual military spouses — people who’ve dealt with deployments, base housing with black mold, and $32k salaries while their partner is on the other side of the planet — are now supposed to take guidance from a panel of cabinet wives. The rest of the commission is Markwayne Mullin’s wife and the spouses of service secretaries, because apparently “married to the right guy” is a qualification now. Every member got their seat the exact same way. That’s not a commission, it’s a dinner reservation.
