Viperactive takes two ideas that have no business in the same track, a “MERCY” chant and a “POP IT” bounce, and smashes them together into something built purely to make a crowd lose it. Trap Nation uploads can run together into one long beige drone of festival trap, so I notice when one of them actually has a personality, and this has personality to spare. He was one of the faces of the brostep boom a decade ago, and instead of pretending that era never happened, he’s leaning into it with a wink. The track itself is huge, all swaggering mid-range and a drop that struts more than it stomps. There’s a confidence here that younger producers can’t fake, the sound of someone who has done this ten thousand times and still finds it fun. LAXX - Step 666

The track opens almost politely before the first drop arrives like a door getting kicked off its hinges. There’s a nasty, metallic quality to the lead that sits somewhere between a robot clearing its throat and a chainsaw with opinions.
