You already know inside fifteen seconds whether “DAYDREAM (HIT THE WAVE)” is for you, because it wears its entire heart on the outside of its sleeve. This is bright, uncomplicated festival dance music with a vocal from Emie built to be screamed back by ten thousand people who learned it an hour ago. SILK and JIUZ keep the arrangement lean: a plucky lead riff, a rising pre-drop, then a payoff that swaps a heavy bassline for pure melodic sugar. The “hit the wave” refrain is engineered to lodge in your head within one listen, and it did exactly that to me against my stated wishes. What saves it from disposable is the actual quality of the topline; Emie sings it like she means every syllable rather than reading off a session sheet in a rush. It’s sunshine in track form, not a cloud in sight. Some days you want the difficult, thorny stuff, and some days you want to feel eleven years old at a beach party you weren’t allowed to leave, and this is a very good version of the second thing.
