• Renaisshouse & Maria Mathea - Seeking

This crept up on me. Renaisshouse and Maria Mathea made “Seeking” for Revealed, a label I associate with much brasher stuff, and it turns out to be genuinely tender. It’s a melodic, vocal-driven progressive number where Mathea’s topline does the emotional heavy lifting and the production is smart enough to get out of her way. The build takes its time, letting tension stack rather than dumping a drop the second it possibly can. When the release finally lands it leans emotional rather than aggressive, the kind of drop you hug a stranger through. There’s a plucked synth pattern running under the back half that gives everything a melancholy shimmer, like the last hour of a festival when you can already feel it ending. Mathea’s voice has a slight crack in it on the big notes that a more polished singer would have ironed out, and it’s the realest thing on the whole track. Three listens deep and that shimmer still gets me every time. Bigger than a bedroom, softer than a mainstage, and completely unbothered about which one it belongs to.

1 min in. Already a better experience than every Glastonbury main-stage set.
