The vocal sample hits at 0:45 and if you have heard the last three Oden and Fatzo records you can sing the next eight bars before they play. Eyes On You is competent and completely on-brand, which this week is starting to feel like the actual problem. This is the duo’s third or fourth variation on the same warm-sample house template, and it is the one where I can finally see the seams. The Thurman and Metrokid additions do not change the shape of the thing much. There is a nice piece of filter work on the breakdown, a slow open that teases a lift the drop never quite delivers, and the bassline is the same friendly bounce they put under everything. It will work in a set, sandwiched between better tracks, and nobody on a dancefloor will complain about it. But as a thing to sit and actually listen to, it is wallpaper with a good paint job. I wanted them to take a risk and they took the Tuesday shift instead.
