Nordfold - Collide

The bassline on “Collide” walks. It’s got that rolling, slightly rubbery deep-house pulse that Anjunadeep has basically trademarked, and the whole track locks into it within the first thirty seconds and never lets go. Nordfold keeps everything patient here: a vocal snippet floating in the distance, a pad that swells and recedes, and percussion that clicks and shuffles just enough to keep your head moving. It’s late-night music, the 2am-in-a-dark-room kind, built for the deep-house lane where the point isn’t the drop but the groove holding steady while small details drift in and out. Around 3:00 a filtered synth line rises up, and it’s the closest thing to a climax the track allows itself, which is exactly right for the mood. This is the sort of thing Anjunadeep does better than almost anyone: emotional without being showy, hypnotic without being boring. I put it on to focus and looked up forty minutes later having gotten nothing done because I’d just been listening. That’s a compliment.
