Tyler Garrett’s vocals draped over a MXTR liquid DnB track, and yeah, this is exactly the kind of thing you stumble into on a playlist at 1am and then lose twenty minutes screenshotting the title and chasing down the artist. MXTR is a Chelmsford producer who came up with metal, trance and UK hardcore in his ears, which sounds like a recipe for something messy but actually explains a lot. There’s a euphoric, slightly anthemic streak running through his stuff that pure liquid heads don’t always reach for, and it gives “Disconnected” a lift most of this genre is too cool to attempt. Tyler Garrett’s voice does the heavy lifting up top, all that yearning playlist-core energy, and then the drums roll in underneath and turn the whole thing widescreen. These two have been circling each other for a while now, with a handful of collabs floating around the Liquicity orbit, and the chemistry shows. It’s not reinventing anything. It’s a well-built liquid roller with a vocal that hooks on the first listen and won’t shake loose for the rest of the day. But sometimes that’s the entire point. You don’t need every track to break new ground. You need some of them to just be gorgeous and put you in your feelings on the night bus home. This is one of those. Andy C and Friction have both backed MXTR, and you can hear exactly why he’s pulling that kind of attention. File under: songs that ruin your productivity in the best way.
