John Alto - Waiting For

John Alto’s “Waiting For” slid right into my rotation without asking for permission. It’s deep, melodic house that sits in that late-night, top-down-drive pocket, all warm chords and a bassline you feel more than hear. It never reaches for a huge festival drop, and that restraint is the whole reason it works; the track is about the groove staying locked while little details drift in and out around it. There’s a vocal sample buried low in the mix, pitched and looped until the words dissolve into pure texture, and it’s the glue holding everything together. The kick is soft and round, more of a heartbeat than a punch, the kind of low end made for a proper system at 4am rather than a phone speaker at noon. It stays understated the whole way through and never once feels like it’s missing anything. I put it on to test it and ended up letting the whole thing play twice while I did nothing at all, which is usually the sign of a keeper. Music for the good part of the night, after the peak, when everyone finally starts being honest.
