When did goddard. turn into one of the most dependable names in this whole lane? “Stamina” teams him up with Charlotte Haining, one of the most in-demand voices in dnb and liquid, and the result is a properly gorgeous piece of vocal drum and bass. Haining has one of those voices that sounds completely effortless and is obviously anything but, controlled and warm and able to sell a big emotional hook without ever oversinging a single line. goddard. wraps her in a production of rolling breakbeats and a bassline with real warmth to it, the liquid template handled with genuine care. The drop does not try to bludgeon you. It just opens up and lets the groove run, which is precisely right for a vocal record like this one. What lifts it above a hundred other liquid tunes is the songwriting: “Stamina” is built like an actual song, with verses and a chorus that build on each other properly. By the second drop I had stopped analysing anything and just let it carry me somewhere, which is the whole point of dnb in this register. Liquid gets written off as the soft option in a heavy genre, and records like this are the standing rebuttal, warm without ever being weak, reaching an emotional register the harder stuff simply cannot touch. goddard. keeps leveling up release by release, and Haining lifts everything she goes near.
