• EVAN GIIA, Pauline Herr - Born Again

EVAN GIIA has a voice that’s been showing up on good tracks for a couple of years now and she’s the primary reason to pay attention to this one. “Born Again” with Pauline Herr is darker and more emotionally complicated than the title might suggest — it’s not the triumphant rebirth track the name implies, it’s something more conflicted and worth your time. The production sits in that space between trap and something closer to alt-pop, which Trap Nation has been exploring more lately to generally strong results. Herr’s production gives GIIA room to actually perform rather than compete with the beat, and you can hear the difference immediately. The drop arrives when you need it and doesn’t rush to get there. This one takes a few listens to fully land — the first time through you’ll think it’s good, the second time you’ll realize it’s better than that. Give it the time. GIIA keeps delivering.

1 min on this. Less time than the wait for the drop in a Coldplay 'banger'.
