The breakdown at 2:10 drops out every drum and leaves a single searching synth line hanging for four bars, and that pause is the best idea on the record. Free is a Detmex track on Revealed sitting in the melodic, big-room-adjacent lane the label has leaned into lately, euphoric and polished and aimed squarely at a sunset festival slot. The build is textbook, a vocal cut repeating the title, a riser that runs slightly too long, then a drop with a bright plucky lead reaching for the sky. What saves it from the Revealed sameness pile is that lead melody, memorable rather than merely loud, with a bittersweet turn in it that lingers after the track ends. The low end is a touch polite for my taste, playlist-safe the way a lot of this material is. But the emotional core is real, and when the second drop stacks the vocal back over the lead, it earns the goosebumps it is so obviously fishing for. It is a clean, affecting festival record carried by one genuinely lovely hook, and some nights one lovely hook is plenty.
